Niels Arden Oplev and Anders W. Berthelsen’s drama Daniel (Ser du månen, Daniel) has hit the local cinemas with fantastic reviews, and it has also been shortlisted for the title as Denmark’s International Feature Film entry.
The film is based on the true story about the Danish photographer Daniel Rye who was taken prisoner by Isis in Syria in 2013 and kept with several other hostages, including US journalist James Foley. Esben Smed plays the title role and Sara Hjort Ditlevsen his girlfriend Signe.
The other two films on the Danish Oscar shortlist are Queen of Hearts by May el-Toukhy and Before the Frost by Michael Noer with Gustav Giese in a leading role. The Danish Oscar committee will announce the final candidate on September 24.
