Amundsen is Sandberg’s first Norwegian film since the Oscar Nominated Kon-Tiki from 2012 with Pål Sverre Hagen in the lead. Now the two have reunited for another big expedition film about the first person to reach the South Pole, Roald Amundsen. The film will depict how Amundsen won his epic race to the South Pole, beating Robert Scott and the British Empire. Christian Rubeck will be playing Amundsen’s brother Leon Amundsen and Ruby Dagnall his wife Aline in a cast that also includes Anders Baasmo Christiansen, Ida Ursin-Holm and Katherine Waterston who will be playing Amundsen’s last love, Bess Magids. Shooting has started in Iceland.
The film will also shoot in the Czech Republic, Oslo and Svartskog in Norway. Based on a script by Ravn Lanesskog and produced by Espen Horn and Kristian Strand Sinkerud of Motion Blur as well as John M. Jacobsen on behalf of SF Studios, Amundsen is expected to be released in early 2019.
